USGS 40Ar/39Ar Laboratory

Photo of argon laboratory. The USGS 40Ar/39Ar geochronology laboratory in Denver is a state-of-the-art research facility. The custom-built argon extraction line is designed to incrementally heat, fuse, or ablate any K-bearing rock or mineral. Research is focused on understanding the geochronology of ore deposits, mountain building, landscape formation, near-surface faulting, and mechanistic aspects of argon distribution in minerals and rocks.
