Certificate of Analysis
Sample used in the preparation of this reference material was collected in Natrona County, Wyoming, near the Naval Petroleum Reserve at Teapot Dome. SCo-1 is typical of the Upper Cretaceous silty marine shales, intermediate between fine-grained offshore shales and coarser nearshore marine siltstones. The rock is a medium dark-gray (Munsel N-4) silty shale having thin lighter colored silty laminations (Flanagan, 1976).
The concentrations were determined by cooperating laboratories using a variety of analytical methods. Values reported are derived from international data compilations (Abbey, 1983, Gladney and Roelandts, 1988, Govindaraju, 1994). Initial USGS reports (Flanagan, 1976) provide background information on sample collection location.

Unless otherwise indicated total element concentrations are reported for material on an as-received basis, i.e., no drying.
USGS reference materials (RMs) may be obtained directly from Dr. Stephen A. Wilson. The price for each bottle of RM is $80.00 (U.S. dollars) except DGPM-1, which is $175.00 (U.S. dollars). For domestic orders, this cost includes all shipping and handling charges using normal mail delivery. For foreign orders, delivery charges will be added to the final bill. Urgent requests for RMs should be initiated by Fax or e-mail. If required, overnight delivery is available with these charges added to the final bill.
