The purpose of this task is to monitor the ongoing contract with SGS Mineral Services, Toronto, Canada, for routine chemical analyses. The objective is to ensure that all aspects of the contract are executed within the limits established in the statement of work and all performance criteria are met.
Prepared samples are sent to the SGS Minerals Services in Toronto, Canada. Quality control (QC) samples are added to the work orders at a frequency of ten percent. The contractor is allowed 30 days to complete the analyses for each batch of samples submitted. The results are delivered via email to CMERSC LIMS system, and after the data has been validated and approved, it is electronically forwarded to the submitter in speadsheet form. Invoices are paid after the data has been approved by CMERSC quality assurance/quality control protocols. Annual site visits are made to SGS to facilitate communication between SGS and the USGS and to address any short-term problems or issues that may need to discussed in person. The intent of these site visits is to exchange experiences which may enhance data quality or improve laboratory efficiency. New analytical techniques are evaluated for potential inclusion in the contract.
