The Upper Santa Cruz River Watershed Project

Remote Sensing/Imaging Spectroscopy (continued)

Various types of AVIRIS mineral maps can be produced, for instance, maps of single mineral distribution or multi-mineral maps. Common map types are those that show the distribution of several hydrous alteration minerals, e.g., kaolinite, dickite, montmorillonite, or show the distribution of iron- bearing phases, e.g., hematite, goethite, jarosite.

AVIRIS flight line imageDistribution of minerals in parts of the red and yellow AVIRIS Flight Lines shown on the previous page. Each flight line was approximately 10.5 km wide and the pixel size is 17 Meters. The mineralogic map was over-lain on an AVIRIS grayscale image. This was a full resolution map so that individual pixels cannot be detected. Higher resolutions mineral maps could be extracted from these images
